This is usually the page people come to first because the link is HACKING… Well what is hacking??? I’ve sat several exams, installed counter measures and managed several large networks and tinkered around with my own networks for the last 4-5 years and I still can’t give you a set description of what hacking truly is. The media and Hollywood have opposing views. Hollywood associates hacking with some elite bunch of people; who, with a few clicks of a mouse or a bash on a keyboard could bring down whole countries, or transfer millions into their Swiss bank accounts.

The media demonises hackers as evil people set to destroy the world with the latest virus, or steal your credit card details the minute you buy something online.

The web and people who call themselves hackers would argue there is a divide between those known as hackers and those known as crackers. While there are certainly bad people out there who would use computers and the internet to suit their own financial gain. There are also those system administrators who manage to get that little bit of extra functionality out of a server, program or OS to make things a little easier for the end user.

I’ll let you make up your own minds what constitutes hacking and being a hacker, You are here on this site presumably because you want to learn (For whatever purposes) how to hack. Well I hope that I’ve provided a small insight and given you a list of useful tools for the protection of your own systems or networks. After all… The best defence against hackers is to know what they are doing to allow you to inplement counter-measures. Technology and times change rapidly so the mother of all exploits today will be junk code with little use the following week so If you are serious about security you need to keep your finger on the pulse.
